LIVE OAK, FL (352today.com) – The UF/IFAS North Florida Research and Education Center Suwannee Valley (NFREC-SV) is hosting a community day on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Guests can gather from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the UF/IFAS NFREC-SV, 8202 County Road 417, Live Oak, to get an inside look at the farms and how they impact the community.

This community day is focused on providing an opportunity for locals to learn more about the programs and research conducted at the NFREC-SV. Guests can get firsthand insight into how the research affects the local community while also exploring the orchards and taking an informative trolley ride through fields of varying food plants.

Some of the fields guests will see on the trolley tours include watermelon, blackberries, chestnuts and more. There will also be an opportunity to walk through the greenhouses where guests can peruse aisles of plants for a close-up look at the plants. Equipment tours will allow locals to take a look at how farmers keep up with fields and how the research conducted can support them.

For those who want to provide a learning opportunity for children, there will also be educational booths for children and adults throughout the event. Along with educational activities, kids will get to experience a special appearance of Paw Patrol.

This educational and fun-filled community day is free and open to the public to showcase the world of farming to local communities and learn how some of these methods can be applied to the public. Register for the event and learn more about the activities here.
