GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – A black-and-white striped big top in the rear parking lot of The Oaks Mall houses a mix of acrobatics, dark humor and surreal spectacle to Gainesville this weekend as “Paranormal Cirque Specter” continues its limited engagement through Jan. 26. The touring production from Cirque Italia blends traditional circus skills with horror-themed theatrics.

Under the tent, performers showcase a variety of acts including the Wheel of Death, contortion performances, aerial straps and hoops, juggling and tightrope walking. Themed comedy segments are incorporated between acts while stage crews prepare sets for upcoming performances.

“Paranormal Cirque Specter” is intended for mature audiences. According to event organizers, attendees must be at least 13 years old, and those ages 13 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years or older. The production includes adult language and themes that may not be suitable for younger viewers.

Tickets range from $20 to $65 and can be purchased online or over the phone at 941-704-8572. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and concessions and merchandise inside the tent operate on a cash-only basis. ATMS are available on-site.

Remaining performances in Gainesville are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. The venue is located at 6419 W. Newberry Rd. at The Oaks Mall.

Cirque Italia, founded in 2012, produces multiple touring circus shows across the United States. “Paranormal Cirque” is one of the company’s adult-focused productions and differs from traditional family circuses through theatrical staging and darker visual themes. The company does not use animals in its performances.

Some attendees noted tight seating, a few technical glitches and minor onstage slips during high-risk stunts, while others said the live nature of the performance contributed to its unpredictability. Others expressed frustration about the cash-only policy.

For those looking for a slightly spooky but fun night out, “Paranormal Cirque Specter” offers a blend of traditional circus skills and theatrical storytelling for audiences seeking a more adult-oriented circus experience. Its limited run in Gainesville provides local residents and visitors an opportunity to see the touring show before it continues across the Southeast–a show that’s sure to raise spirits in more ways than one.
