OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A 35-year-old Ocala man was arrested after deputies said he entered a vacant apartment without permission and used the unit’s electricity to charge his cellphone and electric bicycle.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, to an apartment complex on SE 53rd Court after a neighbor reported someone inside a unit believed to be vacant. When deputies arrived, a lockbox remained attached to the apartment’s front doorknob, and all doors and windows appeared secured from the outside.

While clearing the residence, deputies found Kevin Darion Chambers inside one of the bedrooms. Investigators said Chambers did not have permission to be in the apartment. According to the report, Chambers told deputies he entered the vacant unit to charge his cellphone and electric bicycle using the apartment’s electrical outlets. Deputies determined Chambers had unlawfully entered the dwelling and was using utility services without authorization.

Chambers was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. He faces charges of unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and theft of utility services. He is currently being held on a $5,500 bond.
