OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Public School Board meets Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, and on the agenda, they will discuss an item that falls under their strategic plan goals for fiscal and operational efficiency.
That item is the guaranteed maximum price for Lake Weir High School’s required roof replacement on buildings 3, 4, 6 and 7.
The design professional on the project is Rogers & Stark Consulting, Inc., Orlando; the contractor is Foresight Construction Group, Gainesville. The reason for the change order was the reconciliation of unused funds on the project in the amount $41,442.50 and a time extension of four additional days.
The Marion County Public School District used a construction management delivery method, including a guaranteed maximum price to perform construction work on this project. However, there were unused funds on the project and because the project was delivered using construction management delivery with a guaranteed maximum price format, the unspent monies are to be returned to the owner, the School Board of Marion County, via a change order, which closes the financial books on the project.
The roof replacement project did experience a delay as a result of scheduling conflicts, with the original substantial completion date slated as prior to Aug. 8, 2025, with final completion on or before Sept. 8, 2025, according to the school district. The contractor requested that an additional four days be added to the project, with a new completion date of Sept. 12, 2005.
The superintendent or designee had signed and approved the change order. It’s Marion County Public School Board policy that the superintendent or designee has the authority to approve and execute any constant contract change order that will increase the construction contract by $25,000 or less or that will decrease the construction contract amount provided, which in this case is a deduction of $41,442.50, with the decision being made in the best interest of the school board.
The original contract for the work was $2,939,652, with the deduction resulting in a new contract of $2,898,209.50, with the time frame addition of four days to the project.
The board initially approved the action at their meeting on Nov. 11, 2024. The approval of the change order allows the department to update the schedule for the projects, and by notifying the board, it allows the school district to remain in compliance with board policies.
