BROOKSVILLE, FL (352today.com) – A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in a 2022 vehicle crash that claimed the lives of two people including a six-month-old infant, on Oct. 23, 2025.

Corey Andrews French, 34, was found guilty by a jury on two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, and one count of a violation of a domestic violence injunction by possessing a firearm, according to the Fifth Judicial Circuit.

Judge Daniel Merritt sentenced French to 30 years in prison.

French was driving south along U.S. Hwy 19 in Brooksville on Jan. 10, 2022, and was speeding when the accused went through a red light, driving over a median and into the northbound lane. The victim, 35-year-old Amber West, who was in the process of turning her vehicle, was struck by French’s car.

First responders pronounced West dead at the scene. The victim’s six-month-old infant died less than an hour later from injuries sustained in the crash. The accused was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. It was during this time, when authorities were in the process of clearing the scene of the incident, that they conducted a tow inventory of French’s vehicle. Law enforcement found a firearm in the center console of the vehicle.

The accused is a convicted felon with a domestic violence injunction and was prohibited from possessing a firearm, with French initially being arrested on that charge, while authorities were awaiting the outcome of the crash investigation.

It was during the Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation, that witnesses recalled seeing French driving erratically, striking a stationary car and causing damage to that vehicle prior to the fatal accident. Authorities reviewed a dash cam video provided by one of the witnesses that showed the accused traveling at a high rate of speed during the time of impact.

After authorities reviewed the evidence that was provided and the witnesses statements, the accused was arrested and charged.
