OCALA, FL (352today.com) – For more than three decades, Chris built a reputation in Ocala as a hardworking, reliable metal roofer. Before that, he served his country as a Marine sniper and member of the Marine Security Forces, traveling the world and serving overseas during the first Gulf War. Roofing was his livelihood from 1997 until 2023, when a health scare and a doctor’s orders to “get off the roof” set him on a new path.
That path led straight to a business venture with his daughter, who holds a bachelor’s in elementary education and a master’s in educational technology. With four kids in three different schools, she needed a career she could dedicate herself to now, while still leaving the door open to teach in the future.
The idea for Devil Dog Bin Wash had been in the works for years, but Chris’s health gave them the push to turn the concept into reality. The name “Devil Dog” comes from World War I, when German soldiers nicknamed the Marines “Teufel Hunden” (Devil Dogs) for their toughness and precision. For Chris, it’s a nod to his military pride and a symbol of the same grit they bring to their new business.
So, what exactly is bin washing? It’s a service most people don’t realize they need until they see (and smell) the difference. Using 200° water at 3,500 RPMs, their truck cleans, sanitizes, and deodorizes trash bins and dumpsters, without letting dirty water seep into yards or streets. The process is eco-friendly and far more effective than tackling it with a garden hose or home pressure washer.
While starting a father–daughter business comes with challenges, they’ve found their teamwork to be one of their greatest strengths. “We’re truly a strong, dynamic duo and couldn’t do this without each other,” she says. One of their proudest moments so far was their grand opening with the Ocala Metro Chamber & Economic Partnership, where they felt the overwhelming support of the community they’ve called home for decades.
Ocala has always been the foundation of their story. For over 30 years, the family has served the area through roofing, and now, they’re giving back in a new way, making neighborhoods cleaner, fresher, and healthier. They also service commercial properties, cleaning dumpsters and pads at restaurants, golf courses, and shopping plazas. “We’re the team that eliminates the smell, solves the problem, and tackles the mess,” she says.
The first month brought a learning curve, educating customers that they’re not just another pressure-washing company but a specialized bin and dumpster cleaning service. That early challenge only reinforced why they started: because this is a service that’s truly needed.
Looking ahead, they hope to add a second, larger truck capable of lifting commercial dumpsters, allowing one truck to serve residential customers and the other to focus on commercial accounts.
