DUNNELLON, FL (352today.com) – A 25-year-old Dunnellon man has been charged with second-degree murder after Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives say he confessed to killing his father and burying the body in the backyard of their shared residence.

Andres Bahamon was arrested Tuesday, June 9, 2026, on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his father, 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada. Bahamon was already being held in the Marion County Jail following his May 19 arrest on a tampering with evidence charge related to the investigation.

Deputies initially began investigating the case on May 16 after family members reported Bahamon-Prada missing. Relatives told investigators they had not seen him since May 7 and became increasingly concerned after repeated calls went unanswered.

During the investigation, detectives uncovered evidence suggesting foul play. On May 18, investigators executed a search warrant at the family’s residence. According to the report, detectives discovered an area of freshly disturbed soil in the backyard and later located human remains buried beneath the surface. The remains were identified as Bahamon-Prada.

Investigators also documented shattered glass, shell casings and suspected blood evidence at the residence. Detectives later recovered a firearm allegedly linked to shell casings found at the scene.

Bahamon initially declined to speak with investigators regarding his father’s disappearance. However, detectives later conducted another interview while he was being held in jail. During that interview, detectives say Bahamon admitted to shooting his father multiple times on or around May 7 before burying his body on the property.

The report details numerous statements investigators say Bahamon made regarding religious delusions, including the belief that he was carrying out God’s will and claimed his father was associated with satanic forces and intended to harm him. Family members also told detectives they had previously become concerned about Bahamon’s mental health and that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia earlier this year.

Investigators say Bahamon provided detailed information about the shooting, burial and efforts to conceal the crime. Detectives later recovered photographs from his cellphone that allegedly showed the victim deceased and later buried in a shallow grave.

A medical examiner determined Bahamon-Prada’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide.

Based on physical evidence, witness statements and Bahamon’s confession, detectives charged him with second-degree murder. He remains held at the Marion County Jail without bond.

The investigation remains active. All charged individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
