From symphony performances to community events, these events offer a chance to experience American history through creativity.
48th Annual Jack Gamble Melon Run
The 48th Annual Jack Gamble Melon Run offers a long-running community tradition that brings residents together for a 3-mile recreational run tied to Independance Day weekend programming. While centered on fitness, the event is also part of broader holiday cultural celebrations that highlight community participation during America 250.
The race takes place 8 a.m. Saturday, July 4 at Albert “Ray” Massey Westside Park, located at 1001 NW 34th St. in Gainesville. Registration and participation details are available though the event’s website. Entry fees vary depending on race category.
Fourth in the Park
Fourth in the Park is a community Independance Day celebration in Ocala featuring family-friendly activities, entertainment and local programming tied to the America 250 observance. The event will serve as a festive family outing full of food trucks, live music and kids’ games and activities.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tuscawilla Park, located at 800 NE Sanchez Ave. in Ocala. Admission is free and open to the public. Event programming, schedules and additional details are available through the City of Ocala website.
Legacy of Literature Luncheon
The Martha Washington’s Summer Social, or the Legacy of Literature Luncheon, focuses on the role of storytelling and written works in shaping American identity. The program highlights how literature has preserved history and influenced cultural understanding throughout the nation’s 250-year journey.
The social will take place Wednesday, July 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Heart of the Park, located at 516 NE Sanchez Ave. in Ocala. Tickets are $10 per person and are available for advance purchase online.
Red, White & OSO Blue: 250 Years
The Ocala Symphony Orchestra will mark America’s 250th anniversary with a patriotic concert featuring orchestral works honoring the nation’s history and musical heritage. The performance is part of the Reilly Arts Center’s summer season and serves as one of the signature cultural events for the area’s America 250 celebration.
Performances take place Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 at the Reilly Arts Center, located at 500 NE Ninth St. in Ocala. Both performances will take place at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $56 per person, and vary based on seating and availability. Stars, Stripes and Art
The Appleton Museum of Art will offer free admission throughout July as part of its America 250 programming. Visitors can explore rotating exhibitions and permanent collections while engaging with American history through visual art and cultural expression.
The event runs July 1-31 at the museum’s location at 4333 E Silver Springs Blvd. in Ocala. The offer will be available to guests during regular business hours. Admission is free for the duration of the promotion.
